Victory Cigars Taste So Much Better...

It had a mild start that built and built. Then came a strong, dominating, flavor towards the middle. The finish was spicy and intense with but then resonated with suburb notes of satisfaction! I’m not talking about a cigar here…I’m talking about the beautiful 36-28 MU victory over KU in the Armageddon at Arrowhead!!!

What a game! Mizzou flexed the muscles early, and then played ball control to thwart the KU comeback attempt. That sack of Reesing on the final play that resulted in a safety (the one that left 2 pounds of turf embedded in his helmet) was a beautiful ending!

Chase Daniel probably won’t win the Hiesman (That athletic freak down in Florida probably will – although Daniel has a shot at the Davey O’Brien Award) and MU might not be ranked No. 1 later tonight (WVU’s 66 point throttling of a ranked foe might sway enough east-coast-biased voters) but either way Mizzou will be in the top 2 tonight with a chance to avenge their only loss this season, on a neutral site, and will have a real shot of playing for a friggin’ National Title!!! Mizzou could lose out and this would still be the greatest Tiger season of my lifetime!

Saturday’s beautiful vicorty won me two dates with victory cigars! Lil’ Bryan from Lawrence owes me a La Flor “A” and Mikey-Mobb Zeeno has to buy me a yet to be determined smoke! I’ll smoke both of them with pure, elated joy! What a great time to be a Mizzou fan! And all those Jayhawks better not start with that “wait ‘til basketball” bullshit! Just because they got to wait an extra 7 or 8 weeks to bust out that phrase still doesn’t mean it’s a good one! So light up a good cigar all you Tiger fans – to the best season we’ve quite possibly ever had! And all you Jayhawkers who visited me at the cigar shop yesterday – enjoy those consolation cigars I sold you! Ciao turds…

"Nicaraguans in flight... afternoon delight!"

It seems that within the last few years (and up to present day) that the best cigars that are making their way into the States are those from Nicaragua (with a few notable exceptions, of course). I’ve been on a sort of Nicaraguan smoking spree as of late, and there are indeed praises to sing:

You guys already know of my love for these babies (read the praise in the October archives). They’re full-bodied, smooth, rich, and complex. They deliver loads of flavor with every puff.

New to the market, these dark and peppery cigars are rolled for Ashton by “Don” Pepin – the man behind the Tatuajes. They have a very distinct black pepper flavor. But they’re not overpoweringly strong, nor harsh. Even my cohort in crime, Mikey-Mobb-Zeeno, loves these sticks – and he’s a self proclaimed “Nancy-boy cigar smoker”!

These new cigars are a treat. Medium bodied, medium strength, but full on flavor and good times! These use Nicaraguan interior tobaccos and an Ecuadorian Shade-grown wrapper to bring it down a notch. They have a great smell right out of the box, and they come with a tangy/mineral-esc flavor reminiscent of a damn good Cuban. Definitely try one of these.

Oliva Serie V: Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
In the last 6 months or so Oliva has completely given their brand a face-lift. Still, though, none of their cigars blew me away. This has changed with the release of their Serie V. I had heard the hype from their rep, and even seen the lofty 94 rating in the latest Cigar Aficionado. I smoked one of the large perfectos, and then a double robusto, and I can say that this cigar does deliver! It has that nice spicy, Nicaraguan puro taste. It’s relatively smooth and has a robust, complex flavor.

Let’s not forget these old-school classics. And in the next few months we should see the new Padron 80th. Granted they’ll be harder to find than Jimmy Hoffa, and they’ll be more expensive than spending 8 hours with a hooker in Vegas, but hey – I’m sure they’ll be great!

And for my sports take of the week: MU: 38 – KU: 31. Go Tigers!!!!!!!!!!!
